Project Description

Julett Broadnax

“Ignatian influence and 30 day retreat has helped me to see God in all things and hopefully help others see this clearly in their own lives.”

I remember as a teen reading a book called The Listener by Taylor Caldwell.  God was whispering to me softly.

As a young mother I sought additional training in biblical studies and catechesis, and joined the Legion of Mary and Altar Society.  Working in public arena and raising my family, after twenty years I quit in protest against unjust pay – men were earning twice or more than I made for same work – and failure to give me an administrative job because I was not a man, as I trained the man for the job.

So began my volunteer career in Hospice, then Stephens Ministry as a minister and teacher, then AIDS ministry at diocesan level and in the public as a speaker, forming parent support groups, and giving support to patients and caretakers.  At all levels of parish and diocesan work, I experienced petty jealousies and abusive people.  These are Christians I wondered?

In seeking a spiritual director to help me process this, eventually God, the Trickster, lead me to a Center that taught spiritual direction.  This three year process of learning and developing listening and other skills helped me discern my true calling of listening and accompanying others, individually, on their spiritual journeys.  Stories are important as is the important need to be heard.  My life became more peaceful and spirit-fed on this path to seeing God with new eyes and heart.

My vocational training started early, but always God’s faithful presence led me to develop the listening skills I needed – especially listening to Him in all the ups and downs of my own life.  Ignatian influence and 30 day retreat has helped me to see God in all things and hopefully help others see this clearly in their own lives.  Relying on daily Lectio Divina and the Examin are the two cornerstones that help me deal with the realities of life.  Life and God are great!
