Project Description

Rhonda Miska

“The international nature of the CWS community has helped me to understand more fully and appreciate more deeply our global Church.”

I am a freelance writer, poet, lay ecclesial minister, liturgical musician, millennial Catholic, immigrants’ rights activist, a Dominican-sister-in-training, and a Midwest representative of Catholic Women Speak.

My past ministries including teaching in Religious Studies at Clarke University, providing interpretation/translation services for immigrants in legal proceedings, leading retreats for returned missioners, serving as a Jesuit Volunteer in rural Nicaragua, coordinating a community with adults with intellectual disabilities, and leading peace and justice efforts in a multi-cultural parish of about 1000 families.

I stumbled into the Catholic Women Speak community a few months after it began when it popped up on Facebook as a “recommended group” for me to join – which I interpret as both the work of some Facebook algorithmic process as well as the Holy Spirit! It has been a delight to connect with Catholic women from around the world through Catholic Women Speak for conversations about theology, ministry, pastoral realities, history, feminism, prayer, the struggle for justice in church and society and so much more – including, yes, humor! It has been a particular blessing for me to connect with CWS members in person at the October 2015 book launch in Rome and January 2016 book launch in London. The international nature of the CWS community has helped me to understand more fully and appreciate more deeply our global Church.

I serve on the advisory board of Catholic Women Preach, an initiative that brings women’s voices to the lectionary and that is close to my heart as I discern vowed membership in the Order of Preachers. As I move forward more deeply into my discernment of vowed life as a Dominican sister during my years of formation, I am grateful for the accompaniment, challenge, and encouragement I find through Catholic Women Speak.
