Misogyny or Reform? Lucetta Scaraffia and Donne Chiesa Mondo

Misogyny or Reform? Lucetta Scaraffia and Donne Chiesa Mondo

Editor Lucetta Scaraffia and her all-female editorial team have announced that they are suspending publication of the monthly women’s magazine, Donne Chiesa Mondo (Women, Church, World) published by the official Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.

Lucetta has been a good friend to Catholic Women Speak and a brave spokesperson for women in the Church. She contributed to our first book (Catholic Women Speak: Bringing Our Gifts to the Table) and has spoken at both our symposia in Rome in 2015 and 2018. We have been proud to distribute the Women Church World through this website. If you would like to watch Lucetta’s short talk in Italian at our 2018 symposium, please go to the video below and start watching at 36 minutes in. (We are working on English subtitles, so please bear with us if you are not an Italian speaker).

There are many conflicting and confusing reports as to what has led to a breakdown in trust between Scaraffia and the new editor of L’Osservatore Romano. Tina Beattie has been trying to find out more. Her article is published in today’s Guardian – you can read it at this link.

Please scroll down to read monthly editions of Women Church WorldIn the February edition, Lucetta wrote a powerful piece on the sexual abuse of women, including religious sisters, by priests. You can read her article here.
