WEEK THREE—WEDNESDAY, 16th MARCH

LOVE, SEXUALITY AND CELIBACY

All video lectures for this course will be available free of charge here, with a new lecture uploaded each Monday during Lent.

If you would like to join our weekly live Zoom seminars and have access to the full range of online reading and resources and the online discussion forum for this course, you need to register. Please contact Dr Anna Cantelmi at catherineofsiena@roehampton.ac.uk if you would like a reduction in fees or a full grant to cover the cost. Please note that all registrations from now on should contact Dr Cantelmi for a code to allow for a reduction in the full fee, since we are nearly half way through the course.

During the third week, we consider “Love, Sexuality and Celibacy”. We seek to deepen our understanding of questions such as:

  • Issues of sexuality, embodiment and desire in the context of women’s changing expectations and experiences in the context of love and marriage
  • The experiences of lesbian and transgender women in the context of their Catholic faith and their relationships
  • The significance of celibacy as a source of creative and erotic energy for women religious and others who embrace celibate lives

Please remember that the lectures include references to coursework and other aspects of the course which you can ignore, since these relate to students who sign up for the Certificate of Continuing Professional Development. We are offering the course as a resource for a wider audience.
